March has been a very exciting month for myself and Dave. After freelancing for a number of companies this year, we decided to embrace all the work being thrown at us and launch our own creative content company.
So without further ado, we introduce to you Red Platypus!
Red Platypus’ aim is to help SMEs to create unique content that stands out, through social media, video content and copy writing.
The future of Red Platypus
We’ve got a few regular clients already and we’re really enjoying the work. The future is a bright and exciting one for Red Platypus because it looks as though within 2-3 months we will be hiring our own freelance writers to help us with our workload.
We decided to launch Red Platypus because we’re beginning to realise just how the world is changing. No longer do you have to be chained to a desk – you can work from anywhere. We really think this is the way of the future. In a couple of decades we predict around 50% or more employees will work remotely.
This is so exciting because it means you can explore the world as you make a living – never before in human history has this been so easy.
Being a business owner
Another one of the reasons why I’m so excited about Red Platypus is because I’m now a business owner. It feels strange to even type those words, but it’s the truth.
And it feels like a dream come true.
I’m very grateful for this and I have a secret to tell – we didn’t do it on our own.
The secret to Red Platypus
We have someone very special to thank – Dave’s granddad Parma. He left Dave an inheritance – something we’ve never before mentioned on this blog.
Dave’s granddad was a remarkable man and even though I never got to meet him, I know all about his legacy and his impressive life. He encouraged Dave to travel, inspired him to own his own business and bestowed upon him a very cultured up-bringing.
And the money he left behind – part of which Dave’s nan decided to give to us in 2009 – enabled us to travel and start Red Platypus simultaneously. With his investment in us, we’ve been able to grow something that means the world to us, while fulfilling our lifelong passion of seeing the world at the same time.
Investing in our dreams
For a long time, Dave debated what to do with the money. Should we use it for a deposit for a house? Or invest it for our future? Eventually, we decided to do what we’d been dreaming of ever since we left for London – travel the world.
And then, after we’d done this for awhile, we realised it was time to develop our travels into something more meaningful and long-term. Which is how Red Platypus came about.
So there you have it – our new company has been born, thanks to both luck and hard work. And the exciting thing is, by the end of next month, we would’ve earned back the inheritance we spent since we hit the road.

Brilliant news - great to see friends succeed. Even better to see them succeed doing something they love and in their own way! Let's hope you'll be rivalling the likes of Richard Branson one day - (I digress) not enough good people are financially empowered x
Thanks so much Sophie, that means a lot to us 🙂
